AN Action Plan to ensure Milford on Sea remains a thriving village for future generations will be unveiled to the public on Saturday.

The document, which will be displayed in the new community centre in Sea Road, is the result of two-and-a-half years' work by the Parish Vision 2020 steering committee, other volunteers and local businesses.

The hand-over of the document to the new Milford Community Partnership will take place shortly after 11am following a speech by New Forest District Council leader Cllr Melville Kendal and a presentation by the steering committee.

The document sets out the wants, needs and wishes of the community following public consultation exercises.

It also outlines the practicalities of funding.

The Action Plan supplements the Village Design Statement, completed about five years ago.

There have already been some successes with the Action Plan - the community centre in Sea Road is now open and a youth club provided in the adjoining car park.

Plans are in motion to improve road safety and parking in the village centre.

There are also moves to improve and enhance the Pleasure Grounds, the parish council-owned woodland either side of the Danes Stream.

Hampshire County Council, the district council and adjoining landowners are actively involved in preparing a management plan for Sturt Pond, which is where the Danes Stream meets the salt waters of Keyhaven Harbour.

The eventual aim is to have the pond designated a Local Nature Reserve, which will give it added protection.

In addition, Milford Business Association has been relaunched.

Parish councillor Brian Giles urged people to come to the Action Plan launch, look at the plans and comment on them.

"At the end of the day its entirely up to them whether they come, but if they don't, then don't moan about what you get," he said.
