SWANAGE Carnival and Regatta has been hailed another huge success.

The annual event, which attracted tens of thousands of visitors to the town, came to an end on Saturday, with a spectacular firework display over Swanage Bay.

Afterwards, organisers said: "Congratulations to all carnival members and friends for a great carnival week.

"Big thank you to everyone who supported us."

Organisers are already looking ahead to next year's event, which has been confirmed for July 27 to August 3.

It is hoped thousands of pounds will have been raised for good causes and charities again this year.

The main procession, which had the 'Swanage Goes Safari' theme for 2018, took part despite strong winds and rain.

Indeed, the weather earlier this month caused the cancellation of dozens of events across the county.

But carnival procession organisers refused to throw in the towel, and the show went on, snaking its way along a 2.5mile route through town and along the seafront.

This years procession included beach buggies, motorbikes, vintage cars and marching bands.

More than 100 events also took place throughout regatta week, with live music in the Sandpit Field arena every day.

This year's Swanage Carnival Queen was Amey Towner.
