JETTING out from Bournemouth to Geneva and then being chauffeur-driven to an award-winning Swiss spa for the weekend sounds like the preserve of the filthy rich or famous.

But this is the sort of five-star service you can expect at La Reserve, which offers a range of spa packages to suit personal requirements whether you're in need of anti-ageing, de-toxing, stress-busting or just some good old fashioned rest and relaxation.

Within five minutes of climbing into the shiny black courtesy car we were pulling up outside the hotel, which is set in 10 acres of private gardens on the shores of Lake Geneva - just three miles from the airport.

From the outside, La Reserve is a rather uninspiring, red brick building, but it boasts an unexpectedly rich and luxurious interior.

I had a huge lakeside suite that could have slept at least half a dozen people and came complete with all mod cons including two flat screen TVs, CD/DVD players and two marble mosaic bathrooms, one with a Jacuzzi and separate walk-in shower.

No sooner had I unpacked my bags and donned the obligatory fluffy white towelling robe and slippers, it was time for my first treatment - Le Rituel de L'Orient.

According to my personal itinerary, it's a relatively new treatment combining the traditional rituals of the eastern hamman with a range of skincare treatments.

It lasted two hours and was divided into four stages. It's meant to start with a steam in the hamman, which turned out to be closed for a repairs while I was there.

But it all worked out for the best because I got to have a 30-minute soak in one of the spa's hydrotherapy baths.

The high-tech tub, which looks like a giant white ski bob, was set in the middle of a darkened room lit by tea lights.

Its powerful jets are programmed to massage the entire length of your body over the course of half an hour while the foaming water, which is scented with exotic essential oils, is illuminated by a sequence of vibrant coloured lights.

I was then taken through to one of the hotel's 17 treatment rooms and told to lie on the couch while the therapist cleansed me with from top to toe with black soap and an exfoliation mitt.

I was smothered in a rich Rassoul cream - which apparently has deep cleansing and purifying properties - and then cocooned in a light foil wrap and left to relax.

Once I'd been thoroughly scrubbed and cleansed again it was time for the final massage, using a rich cocktail of cinnamon, eucalyptus and cedar wood oils.

I practically floated back to my room where I then dressed for dinner, which was in the hotel's Le Tse Fung - a traditional Chinese restaurant furnished with red velvet chairs and decorated in gold leaf, where we tucked into tapas-style servings of tasty Oriental dishes.

Then it was time to retire to Le Bar - a popular night-spot renowned for its great cocktails and live DJ. I have never seen so many beautiful people in one place - and that included the staff!

The following morning after a huge, healthy breakfast in my room it was time for my next two treatments, which included a Swiss Bliss facial using La Prairie products including their famous caviar firming cream.

After a quick cup of one of the hotel's speciality teas, I was then summoned for my Shiatsu massage which involved me lying on a huge padded mat in a pair of Thai pyjamas while my therapist worked on different pressure points to relieve any remaining tension.

This was followed by a healthy lunch in the spa's chic restaurant.

Although Geneva city centre is only a mile and a half away, the weather was so grey and miserable that I didn't venture out of the hotel.

I spent the rest of the weekend checking out the other facilities, which include a hair salon, separate saunas, and a 16m indoor swimming pool.

Fortunately there was a small but perfectly formed gym where I could burn off the excess calories I'd consumed.

There are also two tennis courts and a private beach where windsurfing, water skiing and sailing boats are available for guests too.

It's a chic, contemporary and thoroughly Cosmopolitan place that caters for everyone.

I went home feeling pampered and preened and with a real sense of well-being.
