A POWER cut affected residents of East Dorset, Christchurch and Ringwood yesterday evening after a tree fell on power lines.
Firefighters and engineers were called to West Moors after cables were brought down by a tree which toppled at the junction of Elmhurst Road and Heathfield Way.
A spokesperson for the Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Cables were live and arcing."
Residents were warned last night that "power will remain isolated for some considerable time".
Police are manned a 100-metre cordon at the scene.
A representative for SSEN said 148 postcodes between BH10 and BH23 were affected and apologised for the loss of supply.
