THE grounds of a church and primary school in Boscombe were cordoned off overnight after a man was stabbed.

Police were called to Christchurch Road near the junction with Gloucester Road at 10.30pm on Friday night after the man was found injured.

The casualty told officers he had been attacked by two men he knows. He was stabbed in a nearby alleyway, which leads to Corpus Christi Church.

Officers then cordoned off the church, as well as the neighbouring Corpus Christi Catholic Primary School.

A 31-year-old Bournemouth man has been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent and is assisting detectives with their enquiries.

The casualty has not suffered life-threatening injuries.

A christening and a wedding took place at the church yesterday. Visitors were allowed onto the site once they gave their names to officers.

Detective Constable Jane Millard of Bournemouth CID said officers are visiting residents in the area and searching for CCTV footage.
