The man is described as white, 6ft tall and with dark hair. He was wearing a long-sleeved fleece jumper with blue or green stripes, grey tracksuit bottoms and trainers.
Police said he made off via the Alexandra Road exit, in the direction of Ashley Road, with the rose gold Samsung S7 Edge phone.
Detective Constable Kate Rhodes of Dorset Police said: "This robbery happened in daylight hours and left the young victim shaken. Fortunately, she was not physically injured."
She said she is keen to hear from witnesses or from anyone who has been offered a phone in unusual circumstances.
