THE SUN is set to shine down on Dorset this weekend as the county prepares for a busy weekend of events.

Bourne Free, Sandfest and the British Beach Polo Championships are just some of the popular events set to take place.

Today will see temperatures of around 24C, with the mercury set to climb over the weekend.

Saturday will be sunny with highs of 26C with 27C predicted for Sunday.

Earlier this week the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms for Bournemouth, Poole and Dorset for today.

The warning has been lifted for Bournemouth and Poole but is still in place for North and East Dorset.

It will be in place between 11am and 8pm.

The Met Office said the showers could turn thundery in nature.

A spokesperson said: “Heavy showers, which will become thundery in places, are expected to develop quite widely across parts of England and Wales later Friday morning and through the afternoon.

“A few places could receive 20-30 mm of rain within an hour. As is the nature of showers however, some places within the warning area will miss them altogether, and have a dry day.”
