BOURNEMOUTH council’s plan for a new adventure golf course at a prime seaside location is expected to make £205,000 a year – but officers will not confirm how much it will cost to build.
The new Smuggler’s Cove attraction on the former Imax site is set to open next summer, with construction due to begin in the winter.
While the local authority is confident the offering will be popular and profitable, it is only a temporary installation with Bournemouth Borough Council planning to use the site as part of its cultural quarter in the future.
The proposals have been scrutinised by the seafront strategy board, which includes elected members.
Andrew Emery, Resort Development and Strategic Planning Manager, said: “The development of Smuggler’s Cove Adventure Golf has taken six months to develop to ensure it is a viable attraction for the seafront.
“Final costs of the project are subject to a competitive tendering process and so are confidential at this stage to get best value.
“The projected operational financial surplus that Smugglers Cove Adventure Golf will contribute towards the council’s overall budget is around £205,000 per year,” he added.
“This is in addition to the current net contribution the Tourism and Seafront Business Unit already makes.”
