LONG overdue work to install new lifts at Pokesdown railway station is expected to take place next summer.
Boscombe East ward councillor Andy Jones announced the timeframe for the project.
He said the scheme is due to be completed in early 2020.
The update is the first progress on the issue since October, when cabinet member for regeneration Jane Kelly said that thanks to the efforts of Cllr Jones and his colleagues the borough was working with South Western Railway to deliver the new lifts in the next couple of years.
Campaigners have spent years calling for the station's lifts to be restored, allowing more disabled people to use the station.
Once installed the facilities will also save people with pushchairs and baggage the 44 steps up to street level on Christchurch Road.
