CONMEN behind fraudulent websites which claim to offer crypocurrency investments are using the face of a TV presenter to fool victims, campaigners have warned.
The image of Martin Lewis, founder and editor of moneysavingexpert.com, has been used to promote illicit schemes. Victims are targeted via social media and other websites.
Those who click on the fraudsters' adverts are taken to an article, which features Lewis's image, along with fake quotes recommending investments in bitcoin and other digital currencies.
Lewis said: "I don’t do adverts.
"If you ever see one with my face or name on it, it is without my permission, and usually a scam."
Images of investors from programme Dragons' Den are also being used.
Members of the public are urged to be sceptical about such websites. A spokesperson from campaign group Action Fraud said genuine banks and financial organisations won't force customers to make decisions on the spot.
