URGENT improvements are needed at a restaurant in Bournemouth after inspectors found living cockroaches in the kitchen.

Dosa World, in Old Christchurch Road, received a zero food hygiene rating after a member of the council’s environmental health team visited the business last month.

Inspectors warned if improvements are not made, action will be taken.

A number of issues are identified by the officer’s report, including no proof of food hygiene training for staff, no hot water supply to the wash hand basin and poor condition fridges and freezers.

The head of Bournemouth Borough Council’s environmental health team said “urgent improvement” is needed after six cockroaches were found under kitchen shelves.

Across the three inspection categories, it was found that major improvement was necessary for hygienic food handling and management of food safety at Dosa World, while cleanliness and condition of facilities and the building required improvement.

Louise Jones, Bournemouth Borough Council’s environmental health manager, said: “Following our most recent inspection of Dosa World on March 13 we have assessed the premises as requiring urgent improvement.

“We are working closely with the manager of the premises and have instructed that improvements must be made as soon as possible.”

Dosa World can apply for a reinspection, which would take place unannounced within the next couple of months.

Companies House shows the business changed its registered office to a premises in Croydon last August and financial documents, including accounts, are overdue.

Since the inspection, Ms Jones said council officers have spoken with the manager of Dosa World, which provides Sri Lankan and South Indian food.

“We will be continuing to monitor that work is done to correct the issues and we will revisit again to ensure these improvements are made,” she added.

“If improvements are not made, we will take appropriate action. Public safety is of the utmost importance and we treat any breaches of food safety standards very seriously.”

Dosa World was unavailable to comment yesterday.
