TRAVELLERS have established an unauthorised encampment on land next to Poole's park and ride.

Borough of Poole (BOP) officers are monitoring the encampment at Marsh End, Upton Road, which consists of four caravans and associated vehicles - which moved onto the site before the weekend.

One Creekmoor resident, who asked not to be named, told the Echo: "We have had travellers up there in the past. We've had trouble on a couple of occasions, but not every time.

"It seems there is one law for one set of people and another law for the rest of us. People around here are always a bit wary of these sites."

Meanwhile, a BOP spokesman confirmed: "Temporary toilets are on site in accordance with the council policy to reduce any contamination to the land.

"The site will continue to be monitored as part of the legal process for the removal of the travellers."

If borough officials decide to seek an eviction order from the courts, the travellers would have 24-hours to leave the site from the time this notice is served.
