RESIDENTS are being encouraged to give their broken items a new lease of life when a special event takes place in Bournemouth next month.

The Bournemouth Repair Café comes to Bournemouth Library in the Triangle on Saturday, April 7.

People will be able to find out how to repair their electricals, clothing and other items rather than throw them away.

A spokesperson said: “Repair cafe is about members of a local community getting together to skill share over coffee and cake - saving money and reducing landfill.

“Bring your broken belongings along and one of our fixer volunteers may know just how to breathe new life into them. If they don't they'll do their best to find out along with you.”

The event takes place in the meeting room upstairs at Bournemouth Library between 11am and 1pm.

The concept was first started in Amsterdam and has since gone worldwide with 1,500 cafes being set up across the globe.

The Bournemouth Repair Café is run by Transition Bournemouth and Bournemouth Borough Council's Waste and Recycling team.
