A MOTHER is celebrating the success of her bold decision to run a private teaching company as it marks one year in business.

Go Fish Education was launched by Kerry Brown in November last year.

She gave up her teaching job to support son Felix following his leukaemia diagnosis in January, 2016.

Kerry had to give up her full time role to be more flexible for Felix's treatment.

However, last November she decided to pick up her profession of 20 years again in the form of a private tutorial service.

Go Fish Education offers one-to-one sessions for children, teenagers and adults, as well as workshops on a variety of subjects including developing a growth mindset.

Now 12 months on from the launch, Kerry is teaching more than 40 children per week, while 11-year-old Felix is settling in to life as a secondary school pupil at Twynham School.

The brave AFC Bournemouth fan is around half way through his three year treatment in the battle against Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia.

Mum Kerry said her return to teaching as a private tutor was a real positive for Felix and the whole family.

"Me returning to some form of work was a signal to him everything was okay," Kerry said.

"To go back to work and travelling again showed Felix he was on a road to recovery. For him it was a huge turning point."

A celebration of Go Fish Education's first year took place at On the Green Interiors in Parkstone at the start of the month.

Kerry said the business is growing in size, becoming more well known in the community and overall going from strength to strength.

"I never imagined I would be running my own business," she added.

"It is strange being teachers, we know nothing about managing a business or finances.

"We thought it would just keep us going but I'm just so proud of how it has done so far.

"By stepping back from full time teaching I have been able to support all our children and Go Fish Education has become a true positive thing to emerge from Felix's diagnosis."
