AN INVESTIGATION is under way after an incident involving a yacht at Sunseeker's factory in Poole Quay on Saturday.

Crews based at Poole and Westbourne rushed to the factory shortly after 9.30am after receiving reports of smoke coming from the engine room.

A spokesperson from Sunseeker said: "At approximately 9.30am on Saturday morning, Sunseeker staff discovered a problem with a small electrical unit on board a yacht which had become hot and had begun to smoulder.

"The team acted swiftly and kept the situation under control but, as a precaution and as required by our safety processes in these situations, the fire service was alerted.

"Firefighters from Poole attended the scene but were never required to extinguish a fire.

"Instead, they supported the team in ensuring the scene was safe with no risk of further escalation and we are extremely grateful for their support.

"Sunseeker International operates rigorous health and safety procedures to ensure the safety of its people through regular training to prevent, but also to prepare for, such incidents.

"It is to the credit of the staff involved that this incident was dealt with swiftly and effectively with no harm to anyone involved or damage to product or infrastructure.

"A full investigation to the root cause of the incident is now under way."
