POOLE'S Twin Sails Bridge will be closed while maintenance work is carried out.

The bridge will be closed to all traffic between 8pm and 4am tonight, Wednesday and Thursday. During the day, it will be open as normal, except for both cycle lanes which will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday.

The work, including road surface and pothole repairs, is required in advance of the Twin Sails Bridge annual maintenance, which is scheduled to take place in March.

John Rice, engineering manager at Borough of Poole, said: "The Twin Sails Bridge was in operation throughout the refurbishment of Poole Bridge and so didn’t get its annual maintenance last year. Some preparatory works are required now in advance of this year's planned closure which is programmed to start on March 19.

“The work has been programmed to minimise disruption to road users, so we hope it will not cause too much inconvenience."

The Twin Sails Bridge will continue to lift on the current lifting schedule. Additional test lifts may be required but these will be outside of peak hours and only when necessary.
