TWO funny fat blokes appear in a play about two fat, self-obsessed fictional characters trying to deal with the fact that the long wait for their leading lady may be in vain?

If that sounds leftfield, add ubiquitous radio/TV/stage favourite Phill Jupitus and comic sidekick Andre Vincent in Harris tweed as Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee and you have a fairly surreal and intimate night's entertainment at Bournemouth's top stand-up venue.

Waiting For Alice is a sharply-written, sometimes satirical Waiting For Godot for the Playstation generation, a double hander that ultimately bemoans the desertion of book reading in favour of TV, DVD and the computer.

Smoothing off the rough edges of an amusing and witty script for the Edinburgh Fringe, the two larger-than-life comics step outside their comfort zone to produce a piece that's well-paced and, to their credit, well rehearsed.

Out of costume, the boys return to the stage for an hour or so to chat informally with the audience about the play, their tour so far, Zeppelins, breasts, teddy bears and the not-so-famous Ginsberg pasty.

The play, they will be delighted to hear, lasted exactly 59 minutes and there's another chance to see the show on July 24, so don't forget your stopwatch.
