Thousands of people made the trip to the south coast to make the most of a sweltering Bank Holiday Monday.
But there were major delays until 11pm on Monday night leaving Bournemouth with stop start traffic on the A338 Spur Road.
Flew over the A338 on the way back into the base. Traffic is still nose to tail. Nth bound, queuing before Blackwater! Very poor photo! #SM pic.twitter.com/jlN4nMd1Ws

It is also had an impact on the A31, with very slow traffic heading past Ringwood.
There were delays of up to an hour being reported across the New Forest until 10pm.
Update: never seen a queue this late on. Still delays up to one hour on A338 then A31 stop and starts through @ROMANSE to M27 towards M3. pic.twitter.com/uCxOzaSO8M

Traffic was heavy across all routes throughout the day with some roads blocked and car parks full since early Monday morning.
I think the world has descended on Sandbanks. If you're in that queue for the Studland ferry you'll enjoy Autumn on the other side..

Morebus tweeted to say they are suffering with "unusually bad" Bank Holiday traffic, with Sandbanks and Bournemouth proving particularly challenging.
People are also parking on the grass outside some hotels on the overcliff, it has been reported.
And they also said Westminster Road in Canford Cliffs was blocked with parked cars.
Sea Road and St John's Road in Boscombe have also been gridlocked since 9am this morning.

Both car parks on Bath Road were full, with signs across the entrances and traffic in the town centre is crawling.
There were queues stretching along the seafront for food outlets and toilets and one person said they tried to park at Sandbanks car park, but it was full by 9.15am.
Elsewhere there were delays at Longham, Bath Road in Bournemouth, the A31 at Wimborne and the A35 near Bere Regis as well as the A31 at Ringwood.
And traffic was heavier than normal on B3351 New Road from Studland to Corfe Castle.
There was also a crash on the A338 Wessex Way northbound at St Pauls Roundabout which caused congestion on the Wessex Way to Springbourne roundabout.
There was also a broken down car on the Wessex Way near County Gates causing delays and heavy traffic on Queen's Park Avenue due to an accident.
