A DAY of showers did not deter visitors as the New Forest Show continued in Brockenhurst.

Damp conditions overhead and underfoot called for umbrellas, waterproofs and wellies for the event in New Park.

After guests squelched through the fields into the show, they took in the large array of performances, exhibits and trade stalls.

Although there were fewer visitors than the opening day, big crowds were still present for the 97th instalment of the show.

Queues began building from around 8am in both directions along the A337 as thousands of people try to get into New Park for the annual show.

Show secretary Denis Dooley was pleased with how the show was going despite the inclement weather.

"We were prepared for the weather, we've known for nearly a week now that it was going to be wet.

"We brought in a lot of stone and wood chip around the show ground and we're working with traders and the public to keep the show going well," Mr Dooley said.

"The variety of things to do is the real stand out for me. There's not one part that stands out above all else, there is just so many different things for people to do at the show.

"The opening day was a really big day, it's likely to be slightly quieter with the weather and we will see what the final day brings."
