SPRINKLERS could be installed in each of the Poole Housing Partnership’s six high-rise blocks in the future, chief executive Su Spence said.

Currently, none of the six buildings has a sprinkler system. The decision not to install sprinklers was taken after bosses consulted independent fire safety advisors, who said measures taken were “adequate”.

However, the partnership’s low-rise blocks do have such systems, Ms Spence said.

“When we did the refurbishment, we did consider whether sprinklers should go in,” she said.

“The advice we received for our high-rises was that the fire safety measures we had in place were adequate.”

During a residents’ meeting held after the Grenfell fire, sprinklers were discussed again, although Ms Spence said there was not a “universal clamour” for the change.

However, sprinklers could be installed if councillors make a recommendation to add them to the blocks.

“The fire service would always recommend sprinklers - it’s an added safety measure,” Ms Spence said.

“We will be guided by what this committee wants and what councillors want, as well as the advice from the fire service.”
