NEW overnight ‘beach lodges’ are being installed on the Boscombe seafront.

The first of 15 huts were delivered to a site close to Manor Steps yesterday.

Cranes have been positioned on the promenade to allow the buildings to be lifted into place.

The scheme is part of Bournemouth Borough Council’s seafront strategy.

Each lodge can sleep six - four adults and two children - and have their own hot shower, flushing toilet and galley kitchen.

The buildings also feature a living area and decking.

Improved toilet facilities are already in place at Manor Steps, while a new refreshment kiosk and a small manned beach office will also be built at the site.

New solar-powered lighting bollards have also been installed along the zig-zag path which leads to the beach from Boscombe Overcliff Drive.

Work on the £1.75million project began in the autumn.

The lodges - designed by Christchurch-based Ecologic Developments - can be booked for a three-day weekend or four-day midweek mini break, with summer prices beginning at £625.
