COUNCILLORS are seeking the latest figures for road deaths on the A338 north of Ringwood in a bid to lower the speed limit.
At a Ringwood Town Council planning meeting on Friday, members welcomed the publication of figures for 2012-14 by Hampshire County Council, which showed there were 58 crashes between Blashford and Burgate during this period.
Two were fatal crashes and 11 serious but non-fatal.
However, members voted to seek up-to-date figures, arguing there have been more serious crashes in recent years.
At the meeting, Cllr Philip Day said: "We should go back and say thank you very much for this, but our perception is there has been a significant increase in the last two to three years, and we urge them to update the stats and review the situation if we are right in our perception."
The town council is arguing that a reduction in the speed limit on national speed limit sections of the road could help to reduce the number of serious crashes.
