A CHOIR from one of Dorset's smallest schools will be recording a Christmas single after winning a competition.
The group of 30 youngsters from Wimborne St Giles First School were victorious in the first-ever East Dorset District Council chairman's carol competition.
Now they will provide the backing vocals for a festive song called Is it true what they say about Christmas?
Head teacher Philippa Hill said she is thrilled with the accolade, particularly as the school has only 53 pupils.
She said: "The choir were against five other schools in the contest, which was held at the Barrington Theatre in Ferndown.
"They had never been on a stage before but they just got on with it and we are very excited that they won."
Choir members ranged from the school's youngest pupil who is just four-years-old to the oldest who is eight.
The single is being recorded at Bournemouth's Absolute Music studios later this month with the help of local composer Mike Barron.
It will be played on local and possibly national radio stations and copies of CDs will be sold to raise money for the MS Society for Bournemouth and the John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation.
