DORSET Police have hailed the scheduling of Leeds United's visit to Bournemouth next season as a victory for common sense.

The Football League fixture list for the 2006-07 season was revealed yesterday, with Leeds' trip to Dorset listed for Tuesday, November 6, with a 7.45pm kick-off.

Police and Cherries had requested a midweek game with an evening kick-off to minimise the chance of a repeat of 1990's devastating riots.

It will be the first time Leeds have visited Dean Court since that infa-mous May Bank Holiday weekend.

Supt Stuart Katon, operations manager for the Bournemouth division of Dorset Police, said: "The Football League have adopted the common sense approach and we are very pleased about it.

"We are delighted they have made the decision to play the game in November. There were probably a number of other teams in the division with similar concerns, but I think we had a justifiable reason for the request."

Cherries acted quickly once Leeds' relegation to League One had been confirmed by formally writing to the Football League about the forthcoming fixture.

Cherries' chief executive Laur-ence Jones said: "The Football League have been very helpful and we are delighted they have been able to accommodate us."
