SKEGNESS, Aberdeen and Cambridge have little in common apart from the fact that people would rather move to them than Bournemouth.

Research by a property website has revealed the moving location index' - essentially a list of where people want to buy houses and Bournemouth falls just out of the top 10 at number 11.

It seems that property owners also prefer Brighton, Newquay and Weymouth to sunny Bournemouth.

The results were complied from data from the website www.ukpropertyshop.co.uk Spokesman for the company Guy Burgess said: "Brighton combines the benefits of a Regency beach resort, strong on culture and entertainment, with proximity to London for those seeking city living by the sea'.

"Bournemouth appears regularly on the list. It might be because people go there on holiday and then think about buying a place as a second home, to let or as somewhere to retire.

"This does contribute to pricing other people out of the market.

"I would not expect Bournemouth to top the list because prices are too high."

Second on the list Newquay, is famous for it surfing, and nearby Weymouth is third on the list, perhaps because the property market there is being bolstered by the town hosting the sailing events in the 2012 Olympics.

Bournemouth Borough Councillor and cabinet member for economy and tourism Michael Filer said: "As far as I am concerned I would not live anywhere in the UK apart from Bournemouth. The advantages of Bournemouth are so obvious. The facilities are second to none.

"I am sure we will be in the top three soon.

"Brighton beaches are not as good and it is a city by the sea we are a pleasant living experience on the sea.

"From what I know of Weymouth it can not compete with Bournemouth.

"Newquay does have the surf but once our surf reef is built Boscombe will equal or better it. As Newquay is so far from London I think Bournemouth will be targeted."

The research confirmed the popularity of coastal towns as eight out of the top 12 are places by the sea.
