A MUSIC single released this week will cause mixed emotions as it fights for chart success.

For Tim Brown of Sturminster Newton, a vocalist and bass player in the band Not Your Hero, passed away only weeks after they recorded Ask Away, and filmed their music video.

Michael Raphael, who has worked with Busted, Son of Dork and Neve, produced the single, with Tim on lead vocals, and band members Pete Crabtree, Nick Allan and Johnny Brister.

After Tim died last year, the band decided to continue to pursue the 19-year-old's dream, to be in a successful band and have a number one hit.

Band member and best friend Pete said: "We want to make him proud, and get Ask Away to number one.

"We won't stop until we do.

"Tim is still part of this band - he might not be on stage with us but we are playing his songs, his influence is there and we are always thinking of him."

The band, who describe their style as a little more rock than McFly and Busted, have all adopted Hero as their stage surname, and hope to be signed soon.

They have already attracted 50,000 friends on Myspace and fans are branding themselves with star-shaped Tim Hero Tattoos, including stripes of his beloved colour pink.

Dad Keith Brown said Tim had suffered a brain haemorrhage in mid-August 2006 and spent three weeks in a coma before he passed away on September 3.

Speaking of the single, Keith said that he, wife Chris and their other son James, 22, would be watching with interest.

"We hope it's successful - this could be Tim's one and only chance.

"I feel he deserves his five minutes.

"It is difficult for us because we are in a no-win situation.

"If the band makes it big we are going to think Tim should be there', and if they don't then we will be thinking that was Tim's dream and it's all fallen flat'.

"It is going to be hard for us whichever way it happens.

"I think that if you could ask Tim now he would certainly want it to succeed for the rest of the band."

The band released their first album called Up and Running before Tim died, and their second album called Not Your Hero was released as a tribute to him.

Ask Away, released by Matchbox records, is available on the internet from Myspace and from HMV.

Half of all the profits from the release will be donated to the charity Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust.
