As a senior ‘Remain’ voter I am somewhat horrified at the response of the Bournemouth, Christchurch, Poole, etc, electorate to the referendum issue.
Having lived in this area for a number of years, I must have been looking the other way at the interventions which have made the region such a great place to live in.
I thought:
- The area welcomed visitors from abroad
- It had a university, art college and many language schools which had successfully developed organisations and provided employment
- The foreign workers in the N.S in many skills area kept the places going
- Hotels needed such employees to provide such services
- We spent a fortune in trying to attract conferences, entertainments, events such as the air festival with a diversity of provider. I think it is called the hospitality industry
- We had substantial investment in the provision of the financial services who need the flexibility across borders to be successful.
The message we have now given is that they are not welcome and I would follow the lead from JP Morgan and pull out of the area as they have already started to do in London.
I can hear the squeals of horror when the local headquarters is removed from Castle Lane with the subsequent impact on jobs. Perhaps it will need such an extreme to impact upon the voters who have told Johnny Foreigner to poke it.
I apologise to all those affected, including the NHS and youngsters in the area who have been let down by those who should have known better.
