A man has had his stereo confiscated and been ordered to pay almost £2000 after numerous complaints he was playing his music too loud.

Bournemouth Borough Council served a Noise Abatement Notice on Philip Freitas of Purbeck Road, Bournemouth in February.

Officers also seized his stereo equipment following 'numerous complaints dating back to November 2015' about loud amplified music.

But less than a week later a Community Enforcement Officer was called to a report of amplified music being played at a volume to cause a nuisance.

Because Mr Freitas had failed to comply with the abatement notice, Bournmemouth council took him to court.

He failed to attend the hearing and was fined £440, ordered to pay £44 victim surcharge and £1301.85 court costs in his absence.

Matthew King, Community Enforcement Manager, said: “This is an excellent outcome both for the Community Enforcement Officers involved and for local residents.

"Prosecutions like this send the message that we will not tolerate unacceptable noise affecting others and will do our utmost to tackle persistent offenders.”

The council will now decide whether to donate the music equipment to charity or destroy them if not suitable.
