THE long-established Alcatraz restaurants in Bournemouth and Poole are being put on the market – at the same time as their third operator in three years faces liquidation.

Estate agents are marketing the leaseholds for Bournemouth’s Alcatraz Restaurant and Bar and Poole’s Alcatraz Caffe and Restaurant, along with the Sir John Barleycorn pub in Cadnam.

Meanwhile, Candy Experience Ltd – which has been operating the venues along with others in the Alcatraz group – is seeking a creditors’ voluntary liquidation.

The local venues, owned by Alcatraz Investments Ltd, are on the market through Savills.

It is asking £250,000 for the leasehold of Alcatraz Restaurant and Bar in Old Christchurch Road, Bournemouth, an Italian restaurant established in 1986, with flats above. The lease on Alcatraz Caffe and Restaurant in the Old Town part of Poole High Street includes the restaurant and function space and is on the market for £100,000.

The Alcatraz venues are offered separately or with the Sir John Barleycorn in Cadnam, whose leasehold is offered at £209,000, and Alcatraz in Camberley, Surrey, at £49,950.

In a separate move, Ashtons Recovery in Ringwood has been appointed to handle the creditors voluntary liquidation of Candy Experience, which ran Alcatraz, the Sir John Barleycorn, the Old Beams Inn at Ibsley and the Hobler Inn, Lymington.

David Meany of Ashtons said a meeting of creditors was set to take place on Friday, June 17.

He said Candy Experience had ceased on May 12 and the venues were now being run by Tomato Tree.

In 2013, Ashtons was appointed to handle the creditors’ voluntary liquidation of the Apricot Restaurant Company, which traded as Alcatraz, and the Apricot Pub Company, which ran the pubs in the group.

The operations were taken over by Alcatrazgroup Ltd, which itself was liquidated in 2014 and its stock and customer list sold to Candy Experience for £11,000.

There was no money in either case for creditors, with claims totalling £394,244 in the case of Alcatrazgroup. Creditors included HMRC, councils, energy suppliers and the Performing Rights Society.

Aside from Tomato Tree, all the companies involved in the Alcatraz venues have had members of the Hashtroudi family as directors and shareholders.

Alcatraz Investments has Shahab Hashtroudi as sole shareholder. Its current director is Fredrik Domellof but it has previously had Samantha, Shahab, Gabriela, Hedayat, Massoud, Sandra and Shahin Hashtroudi as directors.

Alcatrazgroup has Shahab Hashtroudi as shareholder, with Hedayat Hashtroudi as director and Gabriela and Shahab as former directors.

Apricot Restaurant Company and Apricot Pub Company had Hedayat Hashtroudi as shareholder and director.

Paul Podvoiskis, director of Candy Experience, is a former director of Alcatraz Investments.
