A TEEN is living out his dreams - as morebus' youngest driver.

Caleb Buxton, 19, who went to Purbeck School, passed his bus driving test four weeks ago.

The Wool resident said that most people will not make a comment about his age to him, but he often sees people give each other a glance as the doors of the vehicle open as if to acknowledge his young appearance.

Caleb said he's wanted to be a bus driver since he was nine. “Since year five or six, buses have always been something that I have been interested in.

“One of the biggest reasons is that they used to have those roller signs, where the driver would lean out of the window and lift up their arm to change the sign for their route. I thought about all the destinations that they get to go to.”

Growing up, he had a vast collection of model buses ‘which I would get a lot of stick for.’

He said his mum, Dawn, and sisters, Jessica, 23, and Angelina, 22, have supported him in his pursuit to follow his passion from a young age.

He said: "My mum is so proud of me. I could have done this a year ago before my grandad died but one of my sisters had a little baby and my other sister joined British Airways. I’m glad that I’ve done this now.”

In the future, he hopes to have an opportunity every so often to drive through Purbeck for work. “I asked if I could have a couple of routes in Swanage. It was quite quiet as opposed to being in the town centre in Poole and it was nice to drive out that way. As it gets busier in the summer, I’m hoping I might get to do one of those routes, now that I know them, for a day every so often.”
