POOLE residents concerned about the speed of vehicles in their road have called for a 20mph limit.

A petition signed by 54 local residents seeking traffic calming measures in Vale Road, Parkstone was presented to Borough of Poole in February.

The council's transportation advisory group heard the residential road was the site of six slight injury accidents since 1987, average speeds were 27mph westbound and 25mph eastbound and the proposed Alexandra Park 20mph zone which would include the road, is 11th on the priority list.

A report by Julian McLaughlin, head of transportation services, said records would suggest, "there is not a significant accident or speeding problem in this road, certainly in comparison with many other residential roads of this nature."

Members agreed to recommend to the portfolio holder that the petitioner's concerns are acknowledged and forwarded to the Dorset Road Policing Unit and Dorset Road Safe for consideration of speed enforcement.

And officers investigate accesses to the route from west to east, including looking at a possible no right turn from Ashley Road into Weymouth Road and recommend any improvements to alleviate the problems in Alexandra Road and Vale Road.
