A WOMAN has admitted stealing wedding presents from a hotel in Bournemouth.

She was caught on camera leaving the Royal Bath Hotel with bags full of presents she had picked up at the wedding reception of Helen and Paul Woods.

The 63-year-old woman was interviewed by police, after tip offs from members of the public, and admitted the theft.

Detective constable Matt Stacey from Bournemouth CID said: "The east Dorset woman has fully admitted the theft but because of the circumstances of this case, and with the agreement of the bride and groom, she has been cautioned."

The wedding presents, however, have not been recovered.

Bride Helen Woods, 33, of Grove Road, Bournemouth said: "I actually felt quite sorry for the lady. She did offer to compensate us for the presents but instead we agreed that she would make a donation to Julia's House.

"We were upset about the theft at the time. During our honeymoon in Tenerife we were in constant contact with family back here who were sorting things out. But it did not ruin our holiday.

"It is nice to have a resolution to it now."

DC Stacey said: "All the stolen items were left near a seat in Bournemouth town centre, possibly in the Lower Gardens.

"The police are appealing for anyone who might have taken the items for safe keeping to return them to Bournemouth police station."

The gifts include a ceramic plate commemorating the wedding, silver bookmarks and cuff links, two bottles of champagne and some DVDs.

The presents were taken from the wedding reception for 200 guests which followed Mr and Mrs Woods' wedding in St Peter's Church in Bournemouth on February 17.
