CLEVER critters, them Followills. Youth and Young Manhood hit like a rabbit punch at a prayer meeting and many expected the follow-up, A-ha Shake Heartbreak, to tread water and milk the formula. It didn't. And neither does their third outing. Bigger and bolder, it could well see the country boys elbow their way on to rock's top table.

Trademark elements including Caleb's off-kilter guitar lines and vocal tics are all present and (in)correct, but several new flourishes have ripened to enrich the melting pot. Ragoo boasts a slack ska flavour; Black Thumbnail toys with Anglicised blues beats, McFearless has a hint of U2 about it, Trunk has enough weirdness to keep David Lynch at bay, while the opening cut Knocked Up is a defiant and contrite muse on fatherhood.
