A LORRY was damaged trying to get underneath a railway bridge in the New Forest this evening causing significant traffic delays.
Emergency services were called to the outskirts of Lymington on Southampton Road, close to the junction with Marsh Lane, shortly after rush hour following reports an HGV had failed to clear a low bridge.
The roof of the lorry's trailer detached from the vehicle on impact, blocking one lane and leaving debris sprawled across the road.
One side of the wreckage was wedged into the underside of the bridge and the area was coned off by police, with traffic continuing to drive around the incident.
Police later closed the road both ways to allow recovery of the vehicle to take place.
