A BRUTAL attacker who shoved his ex-partner’s head through a glass window and scarred her for life has been jailed for two years.

Alexander Russell, 21, violently assaulted Jasmine Real, the mother of his two young children, in a jealous rage while she visited his mother’s home with their children, Bournemouth Crown Court was told.

Ms Real, 22, needed 62 stitches for a deep wound to her forehead following the early hours attack on September 22 last year.

Judge John Harrow heard Russell, of no fixed address, fled the house after the attack, leaving his mum to care for his victim.

He was arrested more than two weeks later after police took the unusual step of releasing his name and photograph, as well of those of his victim, to the press.

Prosecuting, Stuart Ellacott said Russell looked through Ms Real’s phone and flew into a rage, screaming and swearing, because he believed she had been seeing someone else.

“She decided to leave and went to get her car keys to leave the flat,” Mr Ellacott said.

“She made towards the bottom of the stairs and was punched once to the head. He grabbed the back of her head and pushed her head into the glass window.

“The window broke and she then became aware of blood on her face.”

The court heard that while on the run he sent Ms Real a text message, threatening to kill her.

Defending, Les Smith said the couple’s children have since been taken into care due to incidents involving their mother and her new partner.

He said of Russell: “He is a hard-working young man. His only concern is to get the children back.”

Russell pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding and making threats to kill at an earlier hearing. He was jailed for two years and one year respectively, to run concurrently. He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £120.

Sentencing, Judge Harrow said: “It is most unlikely that you intended to cause her very serious injury but that was the result of your actions.

“This is going to leave her with obvious facial scarring for the rest of her life.”
