IT was checkmate for five Harewood College students when they were crowned senior schools’ chess champions for the second year running.
They beat rivals and 2012 champions Bournemouth School in a hotly-contested and tension-filled match.
The first round produced a draw but the Harewood boys triumphed in rounds two and three to take the crown again.
Mayor of Bournemouth, Cllr Chris Mayne, presented the boys with the St George Meyrick Trophy.
Chess sessions at Harewood are supported by volunteer chess coaches, Eric Sachs from Poole Chess Club and Paul Errington from Bournemouth Chess Club, who give up their time every week to help coach the boys.
