Unsigned artist of the week: Hannah Robinson

The winning track is taken from her last album Oil and Turpentine, which showcases her songwriting skills in nine self-penned tracks.

Her relentless live schedule sees her playing a diverse range of venues and events, from supporting high-profile artists such as Sandi Thom, Megson, Pete Best and the late-great Jackie Leven.

Hannah is also a regular on the festival circuit, with slots at Larmer Tree Festival, Purbeck Folk Festival, The Great Dorset Steam Fair, Wickham Festival, Bournemouth Air Festival, and Freshfields Festival listed among her previous shows.

This summer sees Hannah play the Hop Farm festival and a growing number of London shows. Hannah told 24Seven: “There’s a good scene down here and I’ve managed to play here a lot. But I also want to give it a push in London. People see you making the effort to get out the area and I think it says that you’re more dedicated as a musician,” says Hannah.

Despite strong soul influences as a teenager, Hannah admits to having varied musical tastes.

“I listen to a lot of soul music, especially Sam Cooke when I was a younger. The guitarist from the Red Hot Chili Pepper’s John Frusciante is someone who I really admire, as is PJ Harvey. I know my music sounds quite sweet, but I do listen to a lot of guitar music.”

This year should bring big things for Hannah with forthcoming new material and continued touring.

“There’s a lot more attention on women at the moment in the media. Women have more of a voice now than they ever had before with people like Lauren Laverne on the radio and TV.

“I know I’ve learned a lot since the last album and I want people to hear where I’m at with a four track EP. It should be out mid-autumn and if I say this now I have to stick to it!”
