POLICE have arrested a man from London in connection with a phone scam which targeted residents across Dorset.
Last week, detectives appealed for information through the Daily Echo following reports that a man posing as a police officer conned victims into disclosing their bank details.
The scammer is believed to have told the victims a possible fraudulent transaction had gone out of their account and advised them to call their bank. When the victim then phoned the bank, they were still connected to the fraudster and divulged their bank details to them.
More than a dozen homes across the county are believed to have been targeted.
A spokesman from Dorset Police said: “A 22-year-old London man was arrested in London on suspicion of fraud by false representation. He is in custody helping the police with their enquiries.”
Officers at Dorset Police are reminding members of the public to never disclose their bank details over the phone in any situation.
