The Walking Dead, a Zombie Drama set in a post apocalypse world populated entirely by Rednecks, has spread faster than the Zombie Plague it features. With the second half of the most recent series underway once more, we as viewers are set for uncounted more hours of Rick and Carl stumbling around identical woodland.

So, before you read on let me just place a large spoiler alert here. Still reading? Haven’t seen the most recent episodes? Stop reading? You gone? Good.

The last half of the season had us finally watching what happens when two large groups of survivors meet. Suffice it to say it involved a tank and the tragic deaths of numerous characters we loved and a few we hated. I for one loved the story, I thought it was a great way to end the Survivors spell at the prison, and once again add another dose of tragedy to the groups lives. You just settle down in somewhere you think is safe, and boom, tank time.

However, even with this there were a few issues. The primary one being summed up by Bournemouth University Student Matthew Fricker who said: "It was pretty much the same as the last series finale.’’ Of course, he is correct. Last series we saw a town being attacked, people running around screaming, Carl being an idiot. This finale saw, a settlement being attacked, people running around screaming, Carl being an idiot. I really can see the trend.

Moving swiftly on from the fiasco that was the final episode of the first half of this series, in which the only dramatic part was Herschel’s death – yes, I said there would be spoilers – the new episodes leave much to be desired. Instead of the exiting action we looked forward to, or maybe the tragedy and heart break we expected to see on the screens as they came to terms with their recent losses.

Instead we got something quite different. Robert White another Student at Bournemouth University summed it up rather well ‘’…we got 30 minutes of watching Carl walking and eating pudding, and not dying….’’. Again, the Student is correct. Instead of a gritty tale of survival against the odds, we have been given a 30 minute video of Carl walking, whilst Rick staggers along behind him and says: "Carl, slow down’’.

For half an hour.

I am sure the apocalypse has more to offer than Carl, at least I seriously hope it does.

As a viewer however, I can guarantee I won’t be turning off my TV when next it comes on. Even though I know full well it will annoy me, even though I would have more fun watching paint dry, I’ll still watch. It’s the Walking Dead, I simply need to see what happens, and that is the magic of it. Yes, some episodes are still dull, but you watch it anyway. Why? Because you’re taken in by the story, you need to see if Maggie and Glen meet again, and more importantly, you MUST see if Carl dies.
