IT will be a case of hair today, gone tomorrow for a passionate fundraiser when she has her head shaved for a children’s charity.
Jayne Hann is manager of the Dorset Children’s Foundation charity shop in Christchurch Road, Boscombe, and wanted to do something additional to help the children the organisation supports.
She decided to have her head shaved to raise money and any funds collected will be split between the foundation and Operation Elliot, a campaign to pay for an operation for six-year-old cerebral palsy sufferer Elliot Gower, from Southbourne, pictured inset left.
Elliot, who was diagnosed with CP spastic diplegia aged two and is unable to walk unaided, is one of the children supported by the charity, and his parents are trying to raise enough money for an operation, which could make a huge difference to his mobility.
The youngster’s parents James and Morwenna need to raise £66,300 for Elliot to undergo a selective dorsal rhizotomy at Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital in London, which would enable him to walk completely unaided.
Jayne said: “I’m absolutely passionate about these children that we are trying to help and I thought ‘what could I do?’ “I thought I could shave my head.
“Everyone thinks it’s a bit mad, but I thought it could raise some money. I’m passionate about this charity because every penny that we raise goes totally to the children. We’ve got lots of children that are desperate for special equipment.”
