A BLANDFORD woman has spoken of her distress after her beloved rescue dog was left with injuries to its face in an unprovoked attack.

Alicia Trowbridge, 53, says husband, Christopher, 55, was walking seven-year-old, Sasha, a West Highland Terrier, on Dorset Street, on October 15, when an un-attended Staffordshire Bull Terrier ran towards them.

It got hold of Sasha in its mouth, and Alicia says, would not release the little dog from its grip.

Alicia said: “There was no owner with this dog, and my husband said that it just had Sasha’s head between its jaws and wouldn’t let go.

“Another man stopped to help and between him and Christopher, they managed to force the dog’s mouth open to get Sasha away.

“The owner of the dog came over and took the dog away. He didn’t stop for long or say anything. But he did have another Staffie with him, on a lead, and he had another lead, which was broken, in his other hand.

“Sasha has got a black eye, a broken nasal passage and a puncture wound to her chin. It is as bad as it gets but she is doing well now.

“She was on a lead and Sasha is such a lovely dog. We got her from Margaret Green Animal Rescue several years ago, and she would never hurt anyone. It was completely unprovoked.

“When we take her out now, she is very nervous, as is expected after something like this has happened.”

A spokesperson for North Dorset District Council, said: “The incident was reported to the dog warden, who is following up enquiries and will be liaising with the police.”

Anyone with information should contact North Dorset District Council on 01258 454111 so that dog warden can take statements as necessary.
