THE Royal National Lifeboat Institution is inviting members of the public to take part in a fundraising Beach Fit exercise programme on Boscombe Beach this autumn.
Based on lifeguard fitness training, the one hour sessions are designed to improve strength, stamina and flexibility, including a cardio workout with conditioning exercises – as well as raising funds for the charity.
Lifeguards are expected to be able to swim 200m in under 3½ minutes, and run 200m on sand in under 40 seconds.
Barry Heathfield, RNLI lifeguard manager for Dorset, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to sample aspects of RNLI lifeguard fitness training and learn about its importance in helping lifeguards to save lives.
“It will be a chance to experience this new and unique exercise programme in a great location.”
Each class, running for five weeks from September 24 on Tuesday and Thursday at 6.30pm, costs £5 and spaces are available on a first come first served basis.
