THOSE who were lucky enough to get tickets for the free Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra concerts next Saturday can expect an impressive range of work being played.

The performances have been arranged top celebrate the opening of the new open space at Pier Approach and the end of the controversial IMAX Waterfront building which stood in its place.

The orchestra has announced that they will play a mixture of classical and popular works, including film scores.

The programme will include John Williams’s Harry Potter and Star Wars theme tunes and Klaus Badelt’s Pirates of the Carribean music.

The shows at 4pm and 8pm will also include Strauss’s Thunder and Lightning Polka, Borodin’s Polovtsian Dances, Binge’s Sailing By, Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Sea & Sinbad's Ship and Wood’s Fantasia on British Sea Songs.

More than 8,500 people wanted to attend the two free concerts to celebrate the end of the Imax.

A ballot saw more than 2,400 people register for tickets with the majority requesting four tickets.

Each performance has a capacity for 1,500 spectators and those who received the free tickets will also be treated to pyrotechnics and special effects.
