TEACHERS and students at a special school in Colehill are celebrating their second outstanding Ofsted result, with top marks across all categories.

Beaucroft School, which is currently at capacity with 150 children and 90 members of staff, was praised by inspectors as “excellent”.

Head Paul McGill said staff and pupils alike were delighted with the result.

“The first day went so well that we were really just hoping we would get the same reaction for the second day too,” he said.

“You get to the point where you’re just pacing around like an expecting parent. There’s really nothing you can do that will be helpful at that stage so you just have to wait on tenterhooks.”

The school, which takes on pupils with a wide range of learning difficulties, including those on the autistic spectrum, was given the green light to build a new block for students over the age of 16 earlier this year.

However, Mr McGill said the school could be filled “10 times over” by prospective students hoping to get a place.

He said: “We have a happy school. Children want to be here. Our staff choose to be here. It is a tough job but I have always believed that happy children will want to come and learn, which makes them progress.”

Despite the school’s success, the head said there is always room for improvement.

“There are always things to do. We can always get better.

“We will not get complacent. This is a changing school with a changing population, and we cannot afford to stand still.

“Children are coming here with differing needs, and we must develop with them,” he said.
