A NEW folk festival is set to descend on Poole next month, with the free Folk On The Quay taking place on June 29-30. The weekend shindig should showcase internationally renowned folk acts, four stages, afternoon street ceilidhs and of course morris dancers.
The idea was brought together by the landlords of the pubs, Poole Tourism and folk music organisers Catherine and Paul Burke. Headlining the Saturday night is BBC Folk Award winners Spiers and Boden.
With melodeon, fiddle and guitar they deliver high-energy songs all in a traditional folk style. Two barn dances in the street will be hosted by ceilidh bands, on the main stage, outside the Thistle Hotel on each Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
Festival organiser, Catherine Burke says: “It’s great. All the pub landlords are on board and fully supportive. This is a folk festival for everyone to enjoy: good music all weekend, free of charge.”
