A JUDGE has retired after more than 18 years of work within the courts in Dorset.

District Judge Roger House was joined by friends and colleagues that he has met over the years at Bournemouth Magistrates Court yesterday morning as they took a look back over his career.

District Judge House started his law career in 1972 when he was admitted as a solicitor. He was appointed as an acting provincial stipendiary magistrate in 1992, before becoming a metropolitan stipendiary magistrate, now known as a District Judge, at magistrates court, and chairman of the youth court in 1995.

He was appointed designated judge for Bournemouth Magistrates Court in 2010.

District Judge Gillibrand paid tribute to his colleague by saying: “He’s a perfect gentleman and a gentle man in amongst a world of self-promotion.”

He added that District Judge House was a man of many interests outside of his work, including a surfing hobby.
