TWO best friends will be the youngest entrants in a charity event being held next Saturday.

Talbot Heath School pupils Stefanie Tucker and Rosie Cousins, both 13, are training for the 13-mile half-distance of the MoonWalk through London, which raises money for cancer charities.

They decided to take part after seeing Stefanie’s mum, Verena, take part in the challenge last year and wanted to raise more money for good causes.

However, the girls had to wait for their birthdays before they could meet the minimum entrant age of 13.

Verena said: “I think because the girls are both part of the Poole Park run every Saturday, they already have that level of fitness.”

She added: “For both of their birthdays, which are a month apart, I gave them as a present the entry to the MoonWalk, and said that I would do it with them, although I will be covering the whole 26 mile route.

“We’ve all been training since September for it. We’ve built up from two mile walks to 15 mile distances, so that they should find it easier than they thought.

“They also do the school runs and obviously take part in PE at Talbot Heath, so they should be up for the challenge.”

Stefanie said: “I have never done anything like this before, so I’m excited, and I think our friends at school are impressed by it and everyone has been very supportive.”

Rosie added: “I’m really excited about taking part, although I am sure that my feet will hurt by the finish line.”

Between them, Stefanie and Rosie have raised more than £800 and hope to have £1,000 by the time they start the MoonWalk on May 11.
