THERE was fun in the sun for all at a long-running May Day fete in Kinson on Bank Holiday Monday.

The 33rd annual Kinson May Day Fete and Donkey derby, along with a fun dog show organised by Caring Canines, was held in some rather non-traditional Bank Holiday sunshine at Kinson Community Centre and was organised by the Rotary Club of Bournemouth North.

Over the years it has raised more than £100,000 for charities and good causes in the area.

The showcase event was the Donkey Derby, which featured many thrills and spills as youngsters raced each other in a series of contests and Caring Canines’ fun dog show included prizes such as bets in show and best puppy.

There were also plenty of stalls and traditional fun and games on hand.

Organiser Chris Chubb said: “We’ve had a cracking day, I couldn’t even begin to estimate how many people have been through the gate but it’s thousands.

“We’ve had many local people having fun. Our aim is to make between £3,000 and £7,000 based on previous years, we’ve had good weather, so I’m hopeful.”

Also at the show were Poole Borough Band, Wessex Majorettes and the Dorset Troopers dressed as Star Wars characters.
