ASHLEY Road was closed this morning after an accident in which a cyclist was injured.

The cyclist, a man in his 20s, was involved in a collision with a blue Renault Megane, registered to a Shaftesbury woman.

The road was been closed off after the emergency services were alerted at 8.56 am, causing long traffic tailbacks with vehicles diverted down Windham Road.

The cyclist was taken to Poole hospital but his condition is not thought to be serious.

PC Andy Steele from Poole Traffic Unit, said it was believed that the cyclist had travelled onto Holdenhurst Road from Ashley Road.

The driver of the Megane, a 48-year-old Shaftesbury woman who did not want to be identified told the Daily Echo that she was 'really shaken up.'

Ashley Road was re-opened at around 9.30am.
