THERE IS no explanation as to why a Hampshire teenager took his own life, an inquest heard this morning.

Ross Haughey left a suicide note for his parents but he gave no reason for why he had decided to hang himself.

Southampton Coroners Court heard how the 17-year-old was found dead by a member of the public walking near Linwood, on February 27, three days after he went out for a walk and failed to return to his family home in Frogham.

His anxious parents Brian and Penny raised the alarm with police on February 24.

A search of their home uncovered a note, sparking major concerns that Ross was a high risk missing person.

A large scale search involving officers and search, rescue volunteers and students from Burgate School got underway.

But the search was called off following the discovery of his body in woodland.

Coroner Keith Wiseman said that Ross was doing well at school and had no medical diagnosis.

He had not confided in any friends and like many teenagers he "kept himself to himself".

The coroner recorded a verdict that he took his own life.
